those hard to clean appliances
Coffee Grinder
Run 1/2 cup of uncooked white rice through then through the rice away. If you make a lot of coffee just run the rice through once or twice a month. Other times just wipe with a damp paper towel.
Garbage Disposal
Empty a tray of ice into your disposal and add the rinds from a lemon or other citrus fruit, turn on the cold water and run the disposal until the ice and rinds are gone.
Microwave
Put 2 cups of water into a microwave safe bowl, place in center of microwave and cook on high for 5 minutes. The steam will soften any cooked on food splatters. Wipe down interior.
Blender or food processor
Rinse to remove most traces of food, then fill half way with water and add a squirt of dish washing liquid. Close blender or processor and turn on for half a minute. Rinse again, then let blades spin in the empty blender for a minute to throw off any excess water.
Coffee Maker
Put a new filter in the basket to catch any loosened mineral deposits. Fill the coffee tank half way with white vinegar and the rest of the way with water and run through its cycle. Turn machine off and let sit for 5 minutes. Pour out the vinegar water mixture, wipe carafe and run through cycle with just water again.
Oven
If your oven isn't trained to clean itself, put 1/2 cup of ammonia in a bowl and sit it in the middle of closed over over night. Then pour out ammonia and use a damn cloth to wipe grime loosened by ammonia.
